Standard trade name

Timber trade names given by AS/NZS 1148-2001 Timber—nomenclature—Australia, New Zealand and imported species.

Standard trade names are generally taken from AS/NZS 1148-2001 Timber—nomenclature—Australia, New Zealand and imported species. The alphabetical style is based on the noun, followed by the descriptive part of the name (e.g. ironbark, grey). This means that all the ironbarks can be browsed together.

In Schedule C, common marketing names for imported timbers are linked to the standard trade name and corresponding properties and uses for the species. For example, timbers of Intsia species are available in the Queensland market as merbau and kwila, depending on the source of origin. So, searching for merbau, also directs you to kwila, the standard trade name for Intsia species.
